MEXICO CITY, Dec 2 (LSN)  Yesterday the Mexican Pro-Life Committee handed a petition containing one and a half million signatures to Mexican President Ernesto Zedillo requesting a law to protect life from the moment of conception. Zenit news service reported that signatures on the petition included members of Mexico’s ruling PRI party, Felipe Calderon—leader of the opposition party PAN—,  representatives from the National Association of Businessmen (COPARMEX) and the Women’s National Civic Association.  The president of the Pro-Life Committee told reporters “It is not possible to understand a government that talks about the common good when the laws do not guarantee the defense of that which is most important for its citizenry, life itself. The president of the Republic must know that what is most valuable in Mexico are Mexicans, and those who need most protection are the weakest and defenseless.”  Echoing the late Mother Teresa of Calcutta, Serrano called abortion “the greatest enemy to peace.”
