HOUSTON, June 5, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Twenty lawmakers are urging the state of Texas to take action after seeing unedited testimony about a Houston-area abortionist accused of regularly killing babies born alive during botched abortions, including by twisting their heads off with his bare hands.

Douglas Karpen is already under criminal investigation by the Harris County District Attorney's Office, which opened an early probe into charges of infanticide on May 15.

Three former employees – Deborah Edge, Krystal Rodriguez, and Gigi Aguliar – offered horrifying testimony about conditions inside Aaron Women’s Clinic on Schumacher Lane.

“Most of the time the fetus would come all the way out before he either cut the spinal cord or introduced one of the instruments into the soft-spot of the fetus in order to kill the fetus,” Edge said in a video recorded by Life Dynamics on May 3. “Either that or twisting the head off the neck with his own bare hands.”

The women testified the abortionist would also place his fingers into the babies' mouths and block their windpipes, or place babies born in his office into trash bags. Graphic photos of his newborn victims, taken in 2011, may be seen here. (Warning: Some readers may find this extremely disturbing.)

After seeing the video, Rep. Phil King, R-Weatherford, asked for a DVD, which he then mailed to Lt. Richard Kleczynski with the Homicide Division of the Houston Police Department.

He then gathered a coalition of 20 Texas lawmakers who signed a letter to Mari Robinson, executive director of the Texas Medical Board; and David L. Lakey MD., Commissioner of the Texas Department of State Health Services, requesting a full investigation.

“We strongly support a full investigation into the allegations of Dr. Karpen,” the lawmakers wrote. “As a state, we must ensure that the health and safety of women and children are being protected by laws and regulations in place.”

The medical board has already been approached with the women's testimony. Cheryl Sullenger of Operation Rescue sent the board the relevant information. But on February 8, she received a letter from the Texas Medical Board (TMB), stating, “The investigation referenced above has been dismissed because the Board determined there was insufficient evidence to prove that a violation of the Medical Practices Act occurred.”

As of this writing, neither the TMB nor Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott have stated that they will investigate the charges of infanticide.

However, the Texas Department of State Health Services is reportedly already looking into the shocking allegations, according to DSHS spokeswoman Carrie Williams. On May 15, she called the case “a very high priority for us.”

Lt. Gov. David Dewhurt had demanded a full-scale investigation earlier that day.

Mark Crutcher of Life Dynamics believes employees in facilities like Gosnell's “house of horrors” and Karpen's “house of horrors 2” are beginning to “panic.” Like eight of Gosnell's employees who were convicted of crimes, they “are beginning to fear that they could be the next ones dragged into a courtroom wearing handcuffs and leg irons,” he said.
