(LifeSiteNews) — Thousands of Canadians gathered in over 350 locations across the country to stand up for life in the womb.

On Sunday, October 5, an estimated 20,000 pro-lifers took to the streets to witness to the sanctity of human life at Canada’s 35th annual Life Chain, hosted by the Campaign Life Coalition (CLC).

“The Life Chain Canada Committee sincerely thanks everyone who courageously came out this year and challenges participants to consider how they may contribute to the event more next year – whether it’s serving as a church rep or starting up a new Life Chain in their community,” Josie Luetke, CLC director of education and advocacy, told LifeSiteNews.

“We would also like to challenge pro-lifers to remain involved throughout the year, through initiatives like the ongoing 40 Days for Life campaign and ‘End the Killing’ activism like ‘Choice’ Chains and post carding,” she added.

This year was one of the largest turnouts ever, with over 350 locations across Canada, including rallies in the Yukon and Northwest Territories. Pro-lifers stood along roadways holding pro-life signs. Many also spent the time praying for an end to abortion.

Luetke celebrated how Life Chain gathered pro-lifers from all walks of life and across our vast country: “You see pro-lifers way up in Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories burrowed in their coats and mitts and others in the Greater Toronto Area in T-shirts and shorts.”

“You see longtime, elderly activists with their walkers and lawn chairs and families with young kids running around. Life Chain is really a group effort – the cumulation of much work from church pastors and secretaries, local right-to-life groups, and other selfless leaders – and it is a joy to see the entire pro-life movement united in this cause on this one day,” she continued.

Similar to most pro-life events, young adults and children made up the majority of participants. In the small town of Barry’s Bay, with a population of only 1,084, over 260 pro-lifers lined the major intersection.

CLC’s Pete Baklinski captured the joy and love of the pro-lifers in various pictures and videos uploaded on his social media.

Also present on the streets of Barry’s Bay was LifeSite’s John-Henry Westen, who attended Life Chain with his family.
