WASHINGTON, D.C., August 11, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The coordinators of the international prayer and fasting campaign to end abortion have announced that more cities around the world are participating than ever before, with nearly 300 locations in five countries.
Shawn Carney, National Director of 40 Days for Life, announced on the campaign’s blog Thursday that the 40 Days for Life Fall Campaign 2011 was destined to “make history.”
Registered participants include 291 locations, a record-breaking number that may still increase in upcoming weeks; 48 US states plus Washington, DC and Puerto Rico; seven Canadian provinces; countries including Australia, England, Spain and, for the first time, Germany and Argentina.
46 of the cities have signed up for their first-ever campaigns. (Click here for the full list of locations for the 40 Days for Life campaign.)
This fall’s campaign, from September 28 – November 6, will be the largest and longest internationally coordinated pro-life mobilization in history, said Carney, who encouraged pro-lifers to find the nearest site to sign up to help pray and fast for an end to abortion. Previous participants must sign up again to join the upcoming campaign.
Over the last four years, the 40 Days for Life campaigns have united 400,000 in peaceful fasting and prayer for an end to abortion, including 13,000 church congregations.
Best of all, 4,313 lives have been reported as spared from abortion thanks to the prayerful presence of pro-lifers in the campaign – “and those are just the ones we know about,” Carney notes.
In addition, 14 abortion facilities completely shut down following local 40 Days for Life campaigns, and 53 abortion workers have quit their jobs and walked away from the abortion industry. The most famous of these is Abby Johnson, the former director of the Bryan, Texas Planned Parenthood clinic where the very first 40 Days for Life campaign launched.
