OTTAWA, July 17, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A Christian youth rally in Ottawa, organized by a group of Vancouver-based Evangelicals, attracted a crowd of nearly 5000 young people this weekend. The crowd danced to modern Christian rock music and heard speeches on the sanctity of life and the family, prayed for MP’s and spoke of reclaiming Canada for Christ.
Called Siege 4 My Canada, one of the group’s organizers, Faytine Kryskow – a singer and youth ministry leader with her own non-denominational Christian ministry – was quoted by the Canadian Press saying that the daylong prayer session was part of a growing movement to “see morality restored in Canada.”
Extreme Prophetic Vancouver, Fly High Ministries and related groups, have been organizing youth activities in defence of the unborn, marriage and the family across Canada since 2002.
“The perception that many decision makers in our nation have of the younger generation in the nation is that we are, by and large, departing from traditional moral values,” the group’s website reads.
“When morally liberal decisions are made in Canada that affect the nation, these leaders believe they are representing the desires of the next generation.” The group lists eating disorders, drugs, rape/violence, the breakdown of the family and consequent self-destructive behaviours in young people, among their concerns for the future.
“We believe the reason Canada has been strong in generations past is because she held fast to traditional values: honesty, integrity, generosity, the family, respect for God, a heart for the poor etc. We believe we need a renewal of these values in these days.” The group urges young Canadians to contact their MP’s and lobby to re-establish traditional Christian mores in Canadian society.
The group’s lobbying efforts focus for now on Parliamentary efforts to raise the age for consent for sexual relations from 14 to 16, a bill by Liberal MP Paul Steckle to make abortion illegal after 20 weeks gestation and the effort to bring back the traditional definition of marriage.
