DALLAS, Texas (LifeSiteNews) – Professional wrestler Mark Calaway may be known primarily for his gloomy and eerie wrestling person “The Undertaker,” but in his World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Hall of Fame speech on April 1, he publicly proclaimed his faith in Jesus Christ, his “personal Lord and Savior.”

Addressing his wife while speaking from the ring, he said: “I think the greatest thing that you’ve ever done for me … is restore my relationship with my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

This may have come as a surprise for those who have followed his 30 years career, given his unchristian wrestling persona. However, it is not the first time he has spoken about the Lord.

In 2019 at a Christian conference, Calaway told the story of his faith, saying that he wasn’t an atheist growing up, but that he had lived an “excessive lifestyle” and wasn’t living his “life for God.”

He spoke of meeting his wife, Michelle, and how she got him to attend her Church. Initially, Calaway did not think he needed to go to church, and he found being recognized there because of his celebrity was off-putting. In addition, he was worried that the pastor would recognize him and his unchristian persona and “throw fire and brimstone right at” him.

“It wasn’t nothing like that,” Calaway said in his testimony.

Calaway spoke of how he courted his wife who was already a committed Christian. She was worried that there might actually be something demonic about him given his antics in the ring over the years.

After joking that she had pursued him for some time, when in reality it was the reverse, he joked: “Finally she realized that I was not satan… we ended up dating.”

They were married in 2010.
