CHICAGO, March 2, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) – On Tuesday, February 22nd, Cook County Judge Dennis Dernbach sentenced convicted hit man Jimmy Spencer, to 90 years in prison for attempting to kill Adriel McKinney, now two. Adriel’s mother, Angelique was 71/2 months pregnant on May 14, 2002, when a masked gunman shot her five times. Spencer testified that the shooting was paid for by Adriel’s father.  “It’s the worst I have seen since I’ve been here,” Dernbach said before sheriff’s deputies led hit man Jimmy Spencer away.  After the shooting, Adriel was removed from her mother’s body and put into intensive care. She was 3-pounds, 14-ounces when she was born and had no pulse, a bullet hole in one arm and a deep graze wound in her abdomen. She was a strong baby, however, and nine days after the shooting, was breathing without a respirator.  In a taped statement, Spencer, a drug addicted youth, said that the father offered him several thousand dollars to kill the fetus, because, the father allegedly said, “I don’t want that baby.” Adriel’s father who is not named, had asked McKinney to get an abortion but she refused.

Prosecutors said no charges are being laid against the father. “We have insufficient evidence to charge anyone else at this time, but the case remains open,” said Marcy Jensen, a spokesman with the Cook County state’s attorney’s office.  Read Chicago Sun Times coverage:  https://www.suntimes.com/output/news/cst-nws-hit27.html   hw
