Courts Unable to Lay Murder Charges   BRIDGEWATER, NJ, Sept 24 (LSN) – The Star Ledger reported Tuesday that Drew Stauffenberg was charged in court Monday with aggravated assault for having physically attacked his wife resulting in the death of their preborn child. Stauffenberg’s wife, identified only as N.S., told police that her husband had “expressed a wish for her to have an abortion” after finding out that she was pregnant. Police note that the attack, which occurred after an argument on August 30th, involved Staffenberg bear-hugging her and repeatedly squeezing her stomach. After pulling away and warning her husband that he would hurt the baby, N.S. reports she was punched in the stomach and forced out of the house.  After an examination, doctors at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville determined that N.S.‘s 10 week old fetus had died as a result of her injuries which caused damage to her amniotic sac and uterus. Somerset County Prosecutor Wayne Forrest claimed that a murder charge was not possible.  “The viability of the fetus, or the lack thereof, prevents us from being able to charge murder in this case,” he said.
