LONDON, ON, May 9, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The scandal caused by the University of Western Ontario (UWO) giving an honorary doctorate of law to notorious Canadian abortionist Henry Morgentaler has resulted in a growing opposition movement. Hundreds of letters, emails and phone calls have bombarded the University asking that Morgentaler be removed from the graduation festivities so that pro-life students who have worked hard for their degrees may attend their convocation without violating their consciences. Petitions with thousands of signatures continue to be amassed.

Three protests are scheduled beginning with one on Sunday, May 15th at 2 – 3PM at the residence of UWO President Dr. Paul Davenport at 1836 Richmod St, who was largely responsible for the selection of Morgentaler as an award recipient.

There will be another protest on Wednesday, May 18th at 11 – 12 AM on front of the Stevenson Lawson building at the University of Western Ontario.

Finally plans are underway for a large-scale protest of the convocation on Thursday, June 16, 2005 at 9AM at Alumni Hall. Organizers expect more than 1000 people will attend. In addition to receiving the honorary degree Morgentaler is scheduled to be the speaker at the convocation.

The protests are being planned by Campaign Life Coalition (London), concerned pro-life people in London and members of the alumni of the University of Western Ontario.
