Lewis was reportedly invited to the Jesuit campus to speak to members of the Georgetown community about his new memoir March: Book One which details his experiences during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom with Martin Luther King Jr.

Before becoming a congressman over 25 years ago, Lewis was active during the civil rights movement and endured brutal beatings for his courageous stance. Lewis even received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2011.

But according to OnTheIssues.com, during his time in Congress, Lewis voted against banning federal funds to be used to pay for abortion; voted for federal funding for research that utilizes human embryonic stem cells; voted against making it a crime to harm a fetus during the commission of another crime; and voted against banning partial birth abortion.

Lewis co-wrote his memoir with Georgetown alumnus Andrew Aydin, who served as an aide to Lewis and acted as his communications director and press secretary during the congressman’s 2008 and 2010 re-election campaigns.
