PHOENIX, July (LSN) Pro-lifers were anticipating that charges would be laid in the brutal attack recently on an unborn child by an Arizona abortionist. On June 30, Joel Biskind started a partial-birth abortion on a child he believed was 23-weeks-old. Part-way through the procedure, however, and after fracturing the baby’s skull and giving it several facial lacerations, he realized that the infant was much older. As a result, he ended up delivering a 6-pound 2-ounce baby girl that was 36 weeks old.
The local police and the Arizona Medical Board are investigating the matter, but a police spokesman has said that it doesn’t look as though anybody is going to face charges due to the incident. Pro-lifers are astonished at this response, especially in view of Dr. Biskind’s history, which includes the near abortion of another full-term baby eight years ago and the deaths of at least two women on whom he performed abortion. The death of the second woman is still being investigated. The only censure Dr. Briskind received for the first death was a reprimand from the Arizona Board of Medical Examiners.
Diagnosing a 36-week-old, 6 pound child as a 24-week-old fetus (which normally weigh in at about 2 pounds) is just another example in a growing list of gross incompetence in Dr. Briskind’s practise, critics say. Pro-life advocates hope that no more such tragedies have to take place before people stop accepting the myth that the abortion movement represents the best interests of women. Only when this myth starts to collapse will sufficient accountability be demanded from politicians and medical boards for the protection of women and all children, both born and unborn.
