(LifeSiteNews) — His Excellency Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone has expressed his gratitude to all the faithful Catholics who signed LifeSiteNews’ petition supporting the archbishop’s decision to charitably bar pro-abortion Democrat politician Nancy Pelosi from receiving the Holy Eucharist.

“The Most Reverend Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone gratefully accepts the signatures that were gathered from people around the world, and he encourages us to continue to pray for the conversion of hearts among those who advocate for abortion,” the executive director for communications and media relations for the Archdiocese of San Francisco, Peter Marlow, wrote to LifeSiteNews on Thursday.

“His Excellency very much appreciates the support of so many individuals and thanks LifeSiteNews for the creative way in which it demonstrates how faithful Catholics recognize and defend the dignity of the unborn and the immeasurable gift of the Eucharist,” added Marlow, relaying Cordileone’s kind sentiments.

“May God bless the LifeSiteNews team and all those who engage in this important work,” the letter concluded.

As many know, two days after the Archdiocese of San Francisco released a letter by Archbishop Cordileone notifying Pelosi that she should not be admitted to Holy Communion in accordance with Code of Canon Law 915, LifeSite Petitions launched a petition in support of His Excellency and his heroic defense of the Eucharist.

As explained by the petition, which garnered over 15,000 signatures, “The archbishop is doing this to not only protect our Lord from sacrilege, but also to call Nancy Pelosi to repent from the grave sin of promoting abortion and from the sacrilegious communions that follow.”

“The Eucharist is the literal body, blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus Christ and no Catholic who has committed a mortal sin is to receive Holy Communion until confessing that sin in the Sacrament of Confession,” the petition’s text explained.

“Nancy Pelosi’s soul is in grave danger, not least because of sacrilegious communions as she continues a career-long crusade in support of killing unborn babies, and so the archbishop has done the most charitable thing possible in calling her to repentance and barring her from Holy Communion until she repents.”

In accordance with His Excellency’s request, faithful Catholics around the world are encouraged to continue to pray for Pelosi and all those Catholics who through their politics, promote that which is contrary to the faith.
