WASHINGTON, July 21, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Nick Clooney, the 70-year old father of actor George Clooney, is running for Congress on a Democratic ticket for Kentucky’s 4th district.  Clooney has the financial backing of Hollywood’s biggest names such as Catharine Zeta Jones, Michael Douglas and Renee Zellweger.  Certain press reports on his candidacy call him a “commonsense” Democrat who is opposed to abortion.

However, if he is opposed to abortion, Clooney’s website is not eager to admit it, nor are his press people.  LifeSiteNews.com contacted Clooney’s press handler B.J. Neidhardt to ask about Clooney’s views on abortion but Neidhart refused to respond saying “we don’t do interviews outside our district.”  While, Clooney’s Republican competition Geoff Davis is very proud of his “100% pro-life” position, featuring it prominently on his website, Clooney’s website only quotes press articles on the issue, one of which actually portrays him as in favour of abortion in certain circumstances.  An AP story posted on Clooney’s website notes him as supporting abortion in cases of rape and incest.  While he may not have the backing of far-left Hollywood elites, Davis, the father of six children, has the endorsement of Northern Kentucky Right To Life and Kentucky Right To Life.
