OTTAWA, Apr 30 ( – In an effort to decrease the financial hardship of adoption, and thus to make it an easier option for more families to choose, Calgary Centre MP Eric Lowther introduced a private members bill yesterday which proposes a tax deduction for adoption-related expenses. Under the proposed legislation, a taxpayer deduction of up to $7,000 for expenses related to adoption would be allowed. “Adoption is a gentle option to ensure that a child can be placed with loving parents,” said Lowther, upon the introduction his bill.
