(LifeSiteNews) — Commentators on a conservative-leaning Sky News television broadcast have raised concern over the drastic reduction of airline flights in several nations, proposing it may be part of a “sinister globalist climate agenda” aimed at reducing the freedom of ordinary people.

Rowan Dean, who has his own program on the network, began by highlighting the general commitment of large corporations, as well as national governments, to implementing the “climate change” agenda being advanced by the globalist institutions such as the United Nations and the World Economic Forum.

The talk show host reasoned that if airline companies are committed to reducing emissions 43 percent by 2030, “Doesn’t that mean we have to cut the number of flights by 43%? Isn’t that kind of what logic dictates?”

“Indeed, it would appear that over in Europe, where they are way ahead of us in this climate craziness, they are already dramatically cutting the number of flights,” he observed.

Independent columnist Katie Hopkins clarified in a video clip that while British Airways announced last week they were cutting at least 10,000 flights during the winter months due to “staffing issues,” this may be a less-than-accurate explanation for this change, as other European nations are implementing the same policies specifically for the purpose of reducing carbon emissions.

“This isn’t about staffing. This is a decision to cut flights according to target-driven quotas and this will reflect about 18% of flights being cut. And yet no one’s really questioning it. People are very happy to just nod along and blame it on staffing issues and talk about the pandemic,” Hopkins opined.

She went on to point out how last year, as part of a climate bill, France banned domestic flights if a trip by train can be completed within two-and-a-half hours.

“If there’s a train that you could take instead, you now have to take that train.” Hopkins said. “You can’t jump on a short haul flight despite, obviously, the powerful and the great jumping on their private jets to go wherever they please.”

She also highlighted Green Party initiatives in Norway which for the purpose of emissions reduction seek to establish personal flight quotas, end duty-free shopping at airports, “ban internal domestic flights just like France, and they want to remove people’s ability to fly more than X number of times per year [as well].”

Finally, Hopkins highlighted Schiphol airport in Amsterdam, Netherlands, as the one location which is explicit about the reasons behind its flight reductions. She states that unlike British Airways, Schiphol airport is being very clear that “this has nothing to do with the pandemic, nothing to do with staffing, nothing to do with some [reasons of] scheduling or efficiency” concerns.

“They are limiting flights to prevent emissions,” she explained. And “it’s really dramatic. They’re cutting flights back to 440,000 per year which is a 20% cut.”

For these reasons and more, she concludes, in her full personal commentary on the issue, that the globalist agenda is seeking to gradually deprive ordinary people of the right to air travel.

“I believe that within five years ordinary people will not have the right to fly in any way that they were used to, and within ten years, ordinary people will not have the right to fly at all,” Hopkins proposed.

This can easily be achieved, she explained, by reducing supply, as is beginning to happen with these flight cancelations, and reducing demand by ensuring most people can’t afford to fly, or much less live ordinary life due to skyrocketing inflation and household bills.

In advising how people can respond, Hopkins advises all to lobby political office holders and members of the media, and to “book a bloody flight tomorrow … whilst we still have some limited ability to have these freedoms that are so rapidly being taken away.”
