October 30, 2018, (LifeSiteNews) – The world’s second richest man thinks condoms are as hilarious as they are essential to limiting conception and births in third world countries.
In a truly strange homage to a man he refers to as the “Condom King” of Thailand, Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft, begins:
I’ve never met anyone who knows how to have as much fun with condoms (in public, anyway) as Mechai Viravaidya.
The social activist from Thailand has fashioned the contraceptives into colorful hats, dresses, shirts, suits and other sartorial creations. (Mechai once gave my dad a baseball hat made from hundreds of condoms. He wore the cap at our foundation’s annual meeting, earning big laughs from the staff.) He has started school contests to see who could inflate a condom into the biggest balloon, persuaded Buddhist monks to bless them with holy water, and convinced police to hand them out on the street (a program he dubbed “cops and rubbers”).
Gates, who views this man as a hero, also promoted his “Condom King” friend via his Instagram account, saying:

He made contraceptives readily available throughout the country, and even launched a chain of restaurants named Condoms and Cabbages. Mechai has helped improve the lives of millions of people in Thailand. And the Thai people have thanked him with an honor that is perhaps the greatest measure of his impact. When people in Thailand want a condom, they don’t call it a condom. Instead, they refer to it by the name of the man who taught them the importance of using one – they ask for a “Mechai.”
In a short video published by Gates, Viravaidya, the “Condom King,” explains his strategy of introducing condoms to kids in a humorous way when they are young in order to soften them up to talk about “family planning” more easily when they are older:
We used the condom to promote what family planning is supposed to be, and it generated interest. You could use it as a balloon and it made people laugh. I started giving out condoms to spread the message so we used every method we could and we got school children to have relay races with condoms, condom blowing championships, so they weren’t embarrassed by the condoms, and that’s the issue that they could then talk about other aspects of family planning.
Gates apparently loves condoms. He has promoted their usage to limit population growth in third world countries for decades, and has even sponsored a contest, offering big cash prizes, for new and improved types of condoms.
And earlier this month it was announced that money from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation funded development of a “self-lubricating” condom that is good for “1,000 thrusts.”
Last year, when President Donald Trump moved to reinstate the Mexico City Policy shortly after his inauguration, Bill and Melinda Gates objected, saying that reinstatement of the policy would endanger the lives of millions of women and their babies and create a void that even their “family planning” foundation cannot fill.
The U.S. taxpayer has traditionally been the largest funding source of contraception worldwide via U.S. foreign aid programs. Bill Gates lamented the loss of American tax dollars for contraception programming, saying his foundation couldn’t make up for the loss.
Bill and Melinda Gates have long championed contraception as the savior of impoverished people, lobbying and dumping millions of foundation dollars into contraception programs in developing nations over the years.
In spite of claims it does not support abortion, the Gates Foundation has funded various abortion organizations, including varied Planned Parenthood affiliates worldwide and Marie Stopes International. It has had a close partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNPFA), which has provided support for China’s one-child policy.
