Dear Friends of Life and Family,
Earlier today we learned that Rush Limbaugh, the most influential talk radio host in America, referred to LifeSiteNews.com Wednesday on his program that is listened to by millions. The Limbaugh website included a direct link to the mentioned article on LifeSiteNews.com. Another LSN article was similarly referred to by Rush a few months ago. Regardless of what one might think about Rush Limbaugh, this is one of many examples illustrating the amazing influence of LifeSiteNews.
In the past few years, as LSN has continued to grow in both reach and influence, we have become increasingly accustomed to this sort of thing – happily stumbling on our name, or LSN articles, as we scour the Internet doing the research for which we have become so well known and appreciated.
Of course, it is hardly surprising that people are looking to LSN these days for the “expert” opinion on the life, family, faith and cultural issues. After nearly 13 years of intense researching and reporting on these issues, we have established LifeSiteNews in many minds as the place to go for the news and opinion about pro-life and pro-family issues.
A few months ago LSN assistant editor John Jalsevac was one of several leaders interviewed by the Family Research Council (FRC) in Washington, D.C. for a documentary about the worrisome Obama administration's Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA). You can find the impressive trailer for the recently released film here (John shows up about 58 seconds into the trailer).
Over the years our editor-in-chief, John-Henry Westen, has been interviewed on countless radio stations in countries as far-flung as New Zealand, Poland, India, and all throughout North America. He has also been interviewed for television, including repeatedly on Fox News' The O'Reilly Factor and the EWTN radio network.
LSN stories have been used and referenced by the likes of Limbaugh, EWTN's Raymond Arroyo, and widely syndicated US columnist Michelle Malkin. And we have been quoted or referenced by the New York Times, the UK London Times, CBC, the BBC, the Sydney Morning Herald, and many, many others
The inimitable Drudge Report has linked to LSN breaking stories several times, often driving hundreds of thousands of readers to our website within only 24 hours.
But we don't keep track of or list these accomplishments for our own sake. We do so for yours.
You, after all, are the people who sacrifice so much to keep us going, and we want you to know, especially during this fundraising campaign, that all of your prayers and donations aren't going to waste. LSN is having an impact.
In addition to putting out as many as twenty original news reports a day, LSN co-founder and editor-in-chief John-Henry Westen and other staff members are also increasingly being asked to speak at conferences and events all over North America, and overseas.
Just this past weekend Matt Anderson, LSN's U.S. coordinator, gave a talk at the huge IHM national homeschooling conference at the Dulles Expo and Conference Center, just outside D.C. and yours truly spoke at a conference in Pittsburgh on April 17.
John-Henry has given talks at several large pro-life events and most of his talks were followed by standing ovations.
Earlier this year John-Henry spoke at the Human Life International conference in Washington, D.C. just before the March for life. His brief, but powerful summary of LSN'S Role in the “Recife affair” was strongly applauded at the conference. HLI provided us with an impressive quality video of this 8-minute talk that preceded John-Henry's introduction of HLI's Fr. Euteneur. We have uploaded it to YouTube where you can view it here.
Later this year John-Henry will be speaking alongside some of the most influential voices at the Vatican at The World Prayer Congress for Life. That event is set to take place in Rome Oct. 5 – 10, and will be attended and addressed by luminaries such as Cardinal Ennio Antonelli, the President of the Pontifical Council for the Family, H. E. Cardinal Antonio Canizares Llovera, the Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, and pro-life hero Archbishop Raymond L. Burke, Prefect of the Apostolic Signatura.
John-Henry will also be speaking at the International Pro-Life Conference in Ottawa on Oct. 28, and at the Catholic Leadership Conference in Philadelphia in September. He was also the overall coordinator and principal moderator of the large Canadian National March for Life Youth Rose Dinner and the March for Life Youth Conference that took place the next day in Ottawa, Canada this year.
It will hardly come as a surprise when I tell you that John-Henry is practically run off his feet most of the time. As if being a dedicated husband and father of 7 children wasn't enough! But I can also tell you from experience that he almost never loses his cool, or his unflappably cheerful demeanor. This is the work that he feels he has been called to do, and, believe it or not, he actually enjoys it.
The same goes for the rest of our amazing staff.
As we near the end of our current fundraising campaign, I simply want you to be assured that we at LSN are not only doing everything we can to spread the message of the Culture of Life as far and wide as possible, but that our efforts are proving unaccountably successful. I say “unaccountably,” because it hardly seems possible that an organization with so few resources and so little funding, could possibly shake a fist at the media juggernauts that have been our opinion-shapers for too long.
Clearly, we are doing something right.
Once again, however, as we have repeated so often during this campaign, we cannot do any of this without your support.
As LSN Rome reporter Hilary White wrote in her letter yesterday, we are your “proxies” in the culture wars. For whatever reason, we have been called to devote ourselves more than full-time to this news and information battle of the culture wars.
What you may have been called to do is to act on our information to whatever degree is possible and to support those such as ourselves who are more fully engaged in an aspect of the life and family struggles. This is how you can participate in the fight, even without necessarily standing directly on the battlefield.
So please do take a moment and send a generous donationtoday.
For life, family, faith, freedom and truth,
Steve Jalsevac
