Amnesty International Calls on Latin America to Legalize Homosexual ‘Marriage’
By Matthew Cullinan Hoffman, Latin America Correspondent
NEW YORK, July 21, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Amnesty International (AI), an organization that is increasingly abandoning its historic role as a human rights organization, has congratulated Argentina for creating homosexual "marriage" and is encouraging other Latin American countries to follow suit.
"This is an historic step on the road to equality of rights of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgender people in Argentina," said Luis Finer, an AI spokesman. "Now it will depend on the rest of the countries of Latin America to follow its example."
Argentina's Senate passed a bill on Wednesday of last week declaring that homosexuals can "marry" each other under the country's matrimonial legislation, an act that is additionaly expected to permit them to adopt children.
Although Amnesty International was founded to defend prisoners of conscience, in recent years it has increasingly converted itself into a lobbying organization for radical leftist causes that undermine the right to life and family values.
In 2007, the organization declared that it would support abortion as a "right," despite the fact that the deadly procedure violates the right to life as well as due process rights of unborn children.
In 2009 AI successfully pressured Mexico into adopting a regulatory norm, NOM 046, which requires hospitals to provide the morning after pill, which can terminate the life of an unborn child, to rape victims.
AI also began to provide support for the homosexualist political agenda this year, including pressuring the president of Lithuania to support a local "gay pride" march.
