AIN EL-SUKHNA, Egypt, November 2, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Anglican prelates from Africa, Asia, and Latin America, meeting at a summit last week, condemned Canadian Anglicans and the US Episcopal Church’s willingness to ordain homosexual priests and to bless same-sex unions.

In a statement released Sunday, the church leaders meeting at the 3rd annual Global South to South Encounter said the North American Church’s support for homosexuality is “a direct repudiation of the clear teaching of the Holy Scriptures, historic faith and order of the church.”

Strongly condemning a 2003 US Episcopal Church (ECUSA) move to ordain an openly homosexual bishop, the group stated: “The world needs to know that the rebellious and erroneous actions of ECUSA are contrary to the teaching of the Anglican Communion and represent a departure from five thousand years of Judeo-Christian teaching and practice. By their actions, ECUSA has separated itself from the remainder of the Anglican Communion and the wider Christian family.”

The 103 delegates from 20 provinces, spurned on by Nigerian Archbishop Peter Akinola, enjoined upon Anglicans everywhere to “resist and confront the false teaching undergirding these actions.”

The group underscored its support for a break-away group in North America, “who remain committed to the historic faith and order of the church and have rejected unbiblical innovation.”
