In what may be a harbinger of things to come, another homosexual activist group is demanding to be allowed to march in New York City’s St. Patrick’s Day parade. Organizers denied their application for 2015, but have invited them to apply for the 2016 event.
Because the parade is a Catholic event celebrating a famous Irish saint, homosexual activist groups have long been banned from marching under their banners, since the Church teaches that homosexual behavior is gravely sinful. But in response to mounting pressure and boycotts from politicians and corporate sponsors, parade organizers have capitulated this year, allowing Out@NBCUniversal, a group of openly homosexual NBC employees, to march in the parade and display their banner.
Now, it seems the floodgates have been opened. A gay group called “Irish Queers” held a press conference this week demanding to be included in the parade. They called on members of Out@NBCUniversal to boycott the event until all homosexual groups are welcomed to participate, calling the group’s inclusion “a token gesture.”

“We want to march up Fifth Avenue as an Irish diaspora that has finally joined Ireland in rejecting religion-fueled bigotry,” Irish Queers spokeswoman Emmaia Gelman said. “Let Irish queer groups finally take our place in this year's parade.”
The group has filed an application for the 2015 parade, but organizers say that event is already full. However, a parade spokesman told ABC News that homosexual groups were welcome to apply for 2016.
