AJIEP, Sudan, July 29 (LSN) – Desperate pleas from hundreds of thousands of starving Sudanese reached the world yesterday as reports of the UN’s complicity in prolonging the Sudanese war and famine hit the press. World magazine reported yesterday that humanitarian aid organizations have charged the UN is controlling all aid distribution in the country and severely hampering relief efforts. Peter Hammond, the director of Frontline Fellowship, a Christian organization which provides has smuggled Bibles, food relief and medicine into southern Sudan, told World that “Organizations have to get permission for everything they do from the UN They have to register with the UN.” While the UN claims to be aiding Sudan with aid, it has forbidden Christian organizations, with vast experience in providing humanitarian aid in famine and war-torn areas, from acting in Sudan by forbidding them to include Bibles with food and medicine. Further, while the largest donor for the food aid provided by the UN comes from the United States, the UN has chosen to cooperate with the warring party opposed to that supported by the U.S. The U.S. tacitly supports the Sudan People’s Liberation Army in its fight against Sudan’s brutal Islamic government. The UN works with the government. “The UN gives veto power over everything (aid) to the Islamic government in Khartoum The government of Sudan is using Operation Lifeline (the UN operation) to get what it wants,” said Hammond. World reports that the Sudanese government wants to “impose its Islamic regime on the predominantly African south, which is Christian and animist.” Barbarous tactics such as forced starvation and burning and looting towns have been used by the Islamic government and have been condemned by world leaders. Relief workers have reported that much of the aid controlled by the UN has gone to government-controlled areas not suffering from starvation and has also been used for government troops. A number of Christian organizations have been forced to set up covert aid operations within the country concealing their operations from the UN.
