VANCOUVER, June 5 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Vancouver’s Archbishop Adam Exner has condemned the British Columbia government’s endorsement of the legalization of homosexual marriage.  In the current issue of the BC Catholic, the diocesan newspaper, he states “They began by redefining the legal meaning of spouse, then enlarged it to include same-sex couples. The next step was to promote same-sex spousal benefits. Now they seem to be moving further in seeking to legalize same-sex `marriage,’  which I think would be a tragedy for society and a step backward.”  Heterosexual couples, he added,  “make a very important contribution to society by bringing children into the world, educating them,  and providing society with its future citizens.”

Last week Liberal MP Tom Wappel wrote the Toronto City government about their decision to ask the courts if they can grant marriage licences to homosexual couples.  Wappel told Mayor Mel Lastman,  that “The federal law is clear: marriage is between one man and one woman, to the exclusion of   all others. This definition was confirmed as recently as this month, in Bill C-23.”  Wappel asked that the city end the proceeding and called the case a “complete waste of tax-payers’ dollars.”
