HALIFAX, NS, May 16 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Archbishop Terrence Prendergast has reacted to the CBC airing of “Our Daily Bread” which depicts a woman sharing Holy Communion with her dog in a sacrilegious mockery of Catholic beliefs. The show was broadcast in the Maritime provinces May 1 and was aired nationally at 11:30 Sunday night. Recalling that Catholics believe that Holy Communion is Jesus, the archbishop wrote a local paper saying, “the Muslim community would be upset if the prophet Mohammed was slighted – I mean, this is our Lord Jesus Christ being slighted.”
CBC cannot claim ignorance over the controversial film produced for the public broadcaster by Christian Murray. The Catholic Register reports this week that during the film’s production in 1998 members of the Catholic Women’s League and members of the Catholic Civil Rights League complained that the film showed disregard for the sanctity of the Blessed Sacrament. The archdiocese of Halifax refused to allow filming on church property. The film crew was eventually given permission to film inside a United Church.
