BUENOS AIRES, Jan 5, 2001 (LSN.ca) – A law in Argentina which allows the Argentinean public access to drugs already authorized in other countries such as the United States has been called into question due to the advent of RU-486 (mifepristone) in the US. In response to the dangerous situation, the Catholic Doctors Consortium in Argentina petitioned the Public Health minister not to authorize the selling of RU-486 and other abortifacients in Argentina. Church News reports that they also asked for an amendment to the law so as to exclude abortion and abortifacient “contraceptive” drugs from the automatic authorization for import and sale.
