PHOENIX, September 18, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) – The Republican Speaker of the Arizona House is standing by comments this past weekend accusing Planned Parenthood of encouraging sexual promiscuity among children so they can reap profits from treating the resulting sexually-transmitted diseases and aborting the unwanted babies.
State Rep. Rusty Bowers was speaking at an event sponsored by the group Family Watch International, the Arizona Mirror reported. He accused the “insidious” Planned Parenthood of having “created the business plan of hell.”
“That we can sexualize millions of children, who will investigate and play together, and what would be the results?” he asked. “Sexually transmitted diseases, which we treat for money. Abortion, which we do for money. Even the heinous selling of body parts, which we do for money. And the treatment of AIDS across the world, which we do for money.”
Bowers told the audience that he has 19 grandchildren, three of whom were nearly aborted by their biological parents. He told the story of how one mother had sought an abortion at Planned Parenthood but couldn’t afford to go through with it because Arizona bars taxpayer funding of abortion. She took it as a sign from God, leading her to eventually deliver the baby boy, who is currently in the process of being adopted by one of Bowers’ sons.
“When I think of this,” Bowers said, the thought of “the sexualizing of children, with the resultant sexual activity of children, and the resultant pliability of children … and now I have state-sponsored pedophilia? How can I condone that and think of my children? How can I accept that and think of my grandchildren?”
The comments came in the context of a debate over the state’s sex-education standards, and specifically changes backed by Democrat Superintendent of Public Instruction Kathy Hoffman, which were rejected in June. The proposal, developed with the help of the LGBT group Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network (GLSEN), would have among other things removed a ban on teaching “abnormal, deviate, or unusual sexual acts and practices” and allowed schools to teach boys and girls about sex in the same room.
“I don’t feel radical, but I know a radical,” Bowers said. “When Kathy Hoffman promotes this, I don’t have any question it’s about radicalizing children and their sexuality.”
The Arizona Capitol Times reported that Planned Parenthood Arizona spokeswoman Tayler Tucker accused Bowers of “peddl(ing) in these myths to rob young people in Arizona of comprehensive, inclusive sex ed,” but Bowers isn’t backing down.
“I stand by my opinions of Planned Parenthood and Superintendent Hoffman, but I sincerely hope that they will prove me wrong,” he said.
Pro-lifers have long argued that Planned Parenthood cannot be trusted to oversee sex education, based on its record of curricula and resources that encourage underage sexual activity via topics such as condoms, BDSM, and anal and oral sex, and advice such as that losing virginity is “all about picking the right age for you” and how to procure birth control without parents’ knowledge.
“We passed out low-dose birth control pills we knew must be taken effectively at the same time every day in order to provide a level of effectiveness,” former abortion worker Carol Everett told LifeSiteNews last year. “We knew most girls would not take them accurately, and we knew that she would become pregnant again. And actually, those are the ones we went to the schools and passed out – the low-dose birth control pills we knew the girls would get pregnant on. Our goal was to get three to five abortions between the ages of 13 and 18 from every young woman.”
A 2016 report from the Obama-era U.S. Office of Adolescent Health found that, across six different Planned Parenthood affiliate partners, more than 3,500 students, and 87 schools, left students “significantly more likely than controls to have ever been pregnant or to have caused a pregnancy.”
