WASHINGTON, Feb 15, 2001 (LSN.ca) – Sixty pro-abortion groups united this week to petition the Federal Drug Administration to allow over-the-counter distribution of the abortifacient morning-after-pill. The promotion line being used by the groups, which consist mainly of separate offices of Planned Parenthood and the Abortion Rights Action League and Family Planning councils, says that the morning after pill is safer than Aspirin. The claim is especially ludicrous since various medical bodies are included among the petitioners including, American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Nurse-Midwives and The American Nurses Association.

Judie Brown, president of American Life League (ALL) responded to the petition campaign saying, “The morning-after pill is capable of killing a person during the first seven days his life.” An ALL press release was entitled “Aspirin kills pain the morning after; the morning-after pill kills-period.” Pill proponents say pregnancy begins only when the human embryo attaches himself to the lining of his mother’s uterus, and that a chemical that acts prior to that point “prevents pregnancy” and does not constitute an abortion. However, it is an established scientific fact that every human person’s life begins at fertilization, approximately 6 to 8 days before implantation. “
