March 17, 2015 (CardinalNewmanSociety.org) — Despite Georgetown University’s Catholic identity, its student paper The Hoya recently featured an interview with U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder in which he referenced the Obama administration’s work for same-sex marriage as an accomplishment he is proud of.

“What we’ve done for our LGBT citizens, trying to make their lives better: marriage equality is obviously something that we are arguing for,” Holder remarked to the Hoya when asked what the proudest accomplishments from his tenure were.

Holder has also been a consistent proponent of the Obama administration’s HHS mandate, which enforces insurance coverage of contraceptives, sterilization, and abortifacients. He also played a significant role in coercing the Little Sisters of the Poor to accept the mandate.

Recently, Xavier University of Louisiana was criticized by Archbishop Gregory Aymond for its decision to present honorary degrees to recipients publicly opposed to Church teaching, including Holder.

The Hoya article summarized Holder’s other work in the Obama administration, but his opposition to Catholic teaching was not called into question.
