BUFFALO, NY, Apr 30, 2001 (LSN.ca) – Pro-life US lawyer John Broderick has revealed that he has recently spoken with James Kopp, the suspect in the shooting death of abortionist Barnett Slepian. Broderick told Buffalo News that Kopp is not guilty of the shooting and will not be convicted.

Kopp has written US authorities asking to be defended in the charges and is asking that the charges against him be investigated.

Broderick said he has known Kopp since the 1980s, has defended him previously and has had him as a guest in his home. “He’s a very decent individual,” Broderick said of Kopp. “He’s worked for Mother Teresa. He’s done a lot of good for a lot of people.” Asked why Kopp ran from authorities for 21/2 years if he were innocent, Broderick said there were reasons he could not discuss.
