CANBERRA, Australia, May 10 (Lifesitenews.com) – The Australian government announced today it will launch an independent investigation into the case of a Chinese woman who was forcibly aborted after her deportation from Australia. The investigation was urged by Australian Senator Brian Harradine,  the opposition Labour Party and Amnesty International.

Harradine broke the story in early May when he revealed that the woman had begged for refugee status in Australia so she could escape China’s notorious one-child policy and give birth to her second child. Despite assurances by Australian authorities that she would not be forced to undergo an abortion in China, the woman’s unborn baby was killed just ten days before her due date.  Immigration Minister Philip Ruddock announced the investigation amid rumours that the woman is now missing in China and may have been killed by Chinese authorities for having exposed the forced abortion practice.
