SYDNEY, September 11, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The Australian Senate has passed a non-binding motion by Democratic Senator Brian Greig calling on the Commonwealth government to introduce legislation to grant legal recognition to homosexual unions. The motion came in response to the United Nations order to provide marriage benefits to homosexual couples.
As LifeSite reported September 4th, the United Nations Human Rights Commission ruled that Australia, in denying homosexual partners benefits enjoyed by heterosexual partners, was in violation of Article 26 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
