TORONTO, Ontario, February 9, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Pro-life witness Mary Wagner appears to have convinced a Toronto couple to choose life for their nascent child even as she was arrested again Tuesday.
On Tuesday morning Alissa Golob, the head of Campaign Life Coalition Youth, handed out pro-life material outside the Choice in Health Clinic on Bloor Street West as Wagner distributed roses and cards to the abortion-minded women.
Golob says she spoke with one couple who left the abortion facility holding one of Wagner’s roses. The woman declined Golob’s material, but smiled, said they had spoken to Wagner, and then showed Golob the rose.
“You were made to love and to be loved,” read the message on the cards Wagner distributed. “Your goodness is greater than the difficulties of your situation. Circumstances in life change. A new life, however tiny, brings the promise of unrepeatable joy. There is still hope! Please call the Alliance for Life pregnancy hotline at 1-800-665-0570.”
Wagner was inside the abortion facility for about an hour before she was arrested by six policemen. They also threatened to arrest Golob and a monk who was there praying, claiming incorrectly that the two were violating a bubble zone. Golob said the policemen gave the monk, who is Filipino, a hard time, questioning his immigration status.
“What kind of a country do we live in where saving people from death is a crime?” asked Golob. “Mary Wagner should be an inspiration for all in the pro-life movement. Her courage to reach out to women and children is what we all must do to defeat abortion in this country.”
Wagner had a hearing this morning at College Park, and is scheduled for two more on February 17 and 18.
The British Columbia native spent four months in the Milton Vanier Centre last year after an arrest in April, and was arrested again in November. She faces previous charges of mischief and trespassing after an arrest on December 23 at the Bloor West Village Women’s Clinic. At the hearing the next day, the judge let her off on bail in time for Christmas.
Golob quoted from Martin Luther King’s Letter from Birmingham Jail, where he stated, “I submit that an individual who breaks a law that conscience tells him is unjust and who willingly accepts the penalty of imprisonment in order to arouse the conscience of the community over its in-justice, is in reality expressing the highest respect for law.”
“I encourage everyone who knows about Mary to not let her efforts go to waste and allow her to motivate people to continuously stand up and defend the right to life for all human beings,” said Golob.
