TORONTO, Dec 7 (LSN)  Tina Kolar, a Toronto business woman, is marketing a sex-selection method to Canadians using France’s Selnas technique based on Natural Family Planning methodology. For $500 Kolar and her Right Baby Inc. provide a calendar, based on information about the menstrual cycles of the would-be mother, that “identifies the days that are right for the conception of a boy or girl according to the parent’s choice.”  While Materna, the parent company in France claims a better than 95% success rate, scientists are skeptical. This skepticism however, has made the technique legal in Canada even though Health Canada has declared a voluntary moratorium on sex selection techniques and asked doctors not to recommend or promote them. The National Post reported Saturday that the Selnas method is not considered a medical technique and is therefore exempt from the regulations.
