BARSTOW, CA, July 2, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Police in Barstow, California, are searching for the mother of a young baby whose body they found discarded inside a cup in a resident's front yard.

Authorities say they found the body Saturday morning between 9:30 and 10 am. on the 600 block of Nancy Street.

Barstow Community Hospital confirmed the body belonged to a human child and kept the remains, according to the Barstow Police Department.

BPD officers did not contact the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner because the child was at a gestational age that would not be considered viable outside the womb, the Desert Dispatch reported.

Officials in the city of 22,000, which is located midway between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, say they are still trying to determine the identity of the mother and the cause of what they believe is a miscarriage.

Another option is that the baby was the result of a “self-abortion,” which prominent pro-abortion websites and organizations have been advocating. Such abortions are usually performed using abortifacients or occasionally herbs to induce labor.

The pro-abortion website RH Reality Check defended the process of self-abortion in late 2011. The popular social website Facebook has apologized for removing instructions on how to perform a self-abortion from its website.

In May, police say a former abortion facility worker helped her friend induce early labor, then allowed the baby to die in a Norfolk, Virginia, hospital. In February, Houston police found a discarded baby inside a dumpster after a woman performed a self-abortion.

The rise in babies being thrown out with the rubbish accompanies a bizarre rash of babies being flushed down toilets around the world.

Anyone with information about the Barstow discovery is asked to contact Detective Angel Nevarez at (760) 256-2211, or (760) 255-5167.
