KELOWNA, British Columbia, March 18, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Pro-lifers in British Columbia who maintain a weekly vigil protesting abortion outside the Kelowna General Hospital were again this year greeted by pro-abortion sidewalk chalk art.

The Executive Director of The Kelowna Right to Life Society, Marlon Bartram, explained that last summer “a woman plus an undetermined number of accomplices repeatedly barraged the sidewalk across from the abortuary at Kelowna General Hospital with pro-abortion, anti-male, radical feminist slogans for nearly a month straight” at the spot where the pro-life vigil is kept.

The sidewalk art stopped abruptly when the perpetrator was caught in the act of defacing the public walkway.

Mr. Bartram observed that, “The sidewalk chalk assaults ceased only after one woman – who one observer cleverly nick-named 'Carrie Wright' after her insistence on a woman's 'right to carry' or not to carry a child – was caught in the act of chalk-plastering the evening before the weekly pro life vigil was scheduled to go. It was thought at the time that this encounter would be enough to deter our local chalkeur from re-offending, but alas such may not be the case.”

On Monday this week the vigil keepers saw “a fresh new slate of chalk-based, pro-abortion mantras and diagrams.”

“Although many of the slogans were repeats from last year,” Bartram said, “the artistic quality with which they were presented leads us to believe that either Carrie took art classes over the winter or a new and more talented chalkeur has joined the cause.”

With characteristic humor Bartram noted that far from being ruffled by the return of the pro-abortion chalk artist, the staunch vigil keepers are more determined than ever.

“Either way, they're back and the pro-lifers who remain committed to the weekly vigil (all year round) are ready for them,” Bartram said.

An update from Kelowna Right to Life on the situation notes that, “A few hours after these works of chalk art were put down, a heavy evening rain washed them into oblivion. Ironically, it is only a matter of time before the truth of the matter reigns and washes all pro-abortion arguments into the chalk-dust bin of history forever.”

Photos of the abortion artwork before it was washed away may be seen on the Kelowna Right to Life website here.
