June 11, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – An anonymous woman known to the public by the pseudonym “Beatriz” has given birth by caesarian section following weeks of pressure on the part of local and international pro-abortion groups to kill her unborn child by abortion. Her child, who suffered from anencephaly, died a few hours after her birth, according to doctors.
Although dire warnings were repeatedly issued by United Nations “experts” and the pro-abortion Amnesty International claiming that the life of Beatriz was in imminent danger from her pregnancy, the woman carried her child into the 26th week of gestation without serious medical complications.
Beatriz suffers from the autoimmune disorder lupus, a disease which causes the body’s immune system to attack itself. Although pregnancy can aggravate the symptoms of lupus, it can also cause them to disappear.
A group called the “Citizen’s Group for the decriminalization of Therapeutic, Ethical, and Eugenic Abortion” had filed a motion insisting that Beatriz be permitted to have her unborn child killed. However, doctors monitoring Beatriz told the nation’s Supreme Court of Justice that she was not in need of an abortion. The Court ultimately agreed with the doctors, and ruled against the abortion.

Despite this decision testimony, numerous reports were published in the international media, particularly in Spanish-language publications, portraying Beatriz as a victim of injustice and claiming that her life was in danger.
“Abortion is not medically necessary to save the life of a woman,” noted the pro-life youth organization Vida Sí (“Yes to Life”). “To carry out an abortion during a difficult pregnancy only increases the risk of health to the mother. Therefore ‘Beatriz’ never needed an abortion. Her illness (Lupus) never was active, and so she was never in imminent danger of death.”
Following the caesarean section, some media outlets are claiming that an “abortion” was performed on Beatriz and that pro-abortion groups were victorious in their campaign. Spanish-language media are also continuing to pressure El Salvador to change its law prohibiting all abortions, and portraying women who have been imprisoned for infanticide in the country as victims of the nation’s abortion prohibition.
