BRUSSELS, April 21, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Belgium is rivalling the Netherlands for the title of European country most eager to throw off traditional Judeo/Christian morality. The Belgian Senators in Brussels today narrowly ruled that homosexual couples, long able to “marry” under the law, can now adopt children and complete their simulations of normal family life.

The vote was close indeed with a vote of 34 in favour vs. 33 against with two abstentions. The decision makes Belgium the fourth country in the European Union, after Spain, the Netherlands and Sweden, to link homosexual “marriage” laws with homosexual adoption.

The decision follows a string of decisions and trends in Belgium that has reconfigured Belgian society to the extreme left. In September 2005, Belgian Christians marched against the proposal to allow homosexual partners, notoriously unstable in their relationships, to adopt children.Â

Protesters said that such a law would “undermine the traditional family at its core, but this also implies a complete disregard for the child’s right to a mother and a father.” March organizers, Comité Actie Gezin/Action Famille said, “It further rejects the mounting evidence of the adverse psychological burden imposed to a child raised by same-sex parents. This endeavour is obviously not in the best interest of the child.”

The loss of a specific Catholic social identity and the loss of interest in traditional morals on the part of Catholic leadership seems to be a catalyst for such social changes. Cardinal Daneels or Brussels, one of the most outspoken of the European bishops on politically correct issues of interest to the left such as immigration, has issued no statement to date.

The Catholic Church is far from silent on the issue, however. Recent Vatican documents have identified the adoption of children by homosexual partners as a form of “violence” to the child that deprives him of any chance at a normal developmental life.
