WASHINGTON, D.C. (LifeSiteNews) — The Biden administration last week finally shut down its Orwellian “Disinformation Governance Board” (DGB) after overwhelming backlash.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced it was closing up the DGB on Wednesday, just four months after the board’s launch in April. The board was supposed to combat alleged “misinformation” on issues impacting homeland security, ranging from Russia to illegal immigration.

The DGB had drawn widespread criticism from conservatives immediately after its inception, with many comparing it with the totalitarian “Ministry of Truth” described in George Orwell’s 1949 science fiction novel “1984.”

In response to the criticism, the DHS opted to pause the board pending a review by the Homeland Security Advisory Council (HSAC).

After conducting its review, the HSAC decided the board should be shuttered.

“In accordance with the HSAC’s prior recommendation, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas has terminated the Disinformation Governance Board and rescinded its charter effective today, August 24, 2022,” the DHS said in a statement.

“With the HSAC recommendations as a guide, the Department will continue to address threat streams that undermine the security of our country consistent with the law, while upholding the privacy, civil rights, and civil liberties of the American people and promoting transparency in our work,” the statement read.

Conservative legal group Liberty Counsel pointed out that despite the dismantling of the controversial “disinformation” board, the DHS will likely retain a role in dealing with information deemed harmful.

According to the HSAC guidance, the “DHS should bolster the role of the Office of Intelligence and Analysis” and it “should serve as a principal channel for obtaining disinformation warnings from the U.S. Intelligence Community and from other entities.”

News of the board’s shuttering comes on the heels of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s admission to podcaster Joe Rogan that the FBI reached out to warn about so-called “disinformation” just ahead of the blockbuster story about Hunter Biden’s laptop.

A recent poll has found that roughly 71% of Democrats would have voted differently in the 2020 presidential election if they knew that the contents of Hunter Biden’s laptop were accurate, LifeSiteNews reported.

“Basically, the background here is the FBI, I think, basically came to us — some folks on our team and was like, ‘Hey, um, just so you know, like, you should be on high alert,’” Zuckerberg recalled to Rogan.

“There was the — we thought that there was a lot of Russian propaganda in the 2016 election. We have it on notice that basically there’s about to be some kind of dump of — that’s similar to that,” Zuckerberg said.
