WASHINGTON, D.C. (LifeSiteNews) – The White House has threatened Alabama over a bill passed by both houses that prohibits “the performance of a medical procedure or the prescription of medication, upon or to a minor child, that is intended to alter the minor child’s gender or delay puberty.”

Press Secretary Jen Psaki said on Thursday that the legislation will “harm kids.”

“But Alabama’s lawmakers and other legislators who are contemplating these discriminatory bills have been put on notice by the Department of Justice and the Department of Health and Human Services” that such legislation could violate the Constitution and federal law, Psaki said.

President Joe Biden’s administration has released several documents in recent weeks declaring support for the surgical and chemical mutilation of gender-confused kids’ bodies.

The bill, passed on Thursday and sent to Governor Kay Ivey, would prohibit the prescription of puberty blockers and prohibit pediatric “surgeries that sterilize, including [a] castration, vasectomy, hysterectomy, oophorectomy, orchiectomy, and penectomy.”

It would also outlaw procedures that “artificially construct tissue with the appearance of genitalia that differs from the individual’s sex, including metoidioplasty, phalloplasty, and vaginoplasty.”

Violators of this part of the law could face up to ten years in prison.

School officials and staff would also be prohibited from telling minor students to withhold from their parents “the fact that the minor’s perception of his or her gender or sex is inconsistent with the minor’s sex.”

Republican legislators said the bill will help children.

“We make decisions in this body all the time that are to protect children from making decisions that could permanently harm them,” Republican Alabama Representative Wes Allen said during the debate on the legislation, according to Reuters.

People who have undergone so-called “gender-affirming care” have warned about the effects of the drugs and surgeries.

Walter Heyer, a man who once lived as a woman and underwent “gender reassignment surgery,” called the White House’s support for “gender-affirming care” a form of “institutionalized child abuse.”

Helena Kerschner, a young woman who recently “detransitioned,” told Michael Knowles recently how the Internet and social media encourages gender confusion.

“Around the time I was 15 years old, I was going through a period in my life where I just didn’t have a lot of friends,” Kerschner told Knowles. “I was having body insecurities that were just really kind of tormenting me, and this led me to go online a lot.”

She went on Tumblr, where she said “gender ideology is very prominent.”

There are “social incentives” to change your pronouns and embrace gender ideology to stay in those online communities, Kerschner said.
