(LifeSiteNews) — The Department of Veterans’ Affairs’ new post-Dobbs policy promising nationwide abortion access in violation of statewide restrictions is an attempt to provoke conflict with pro-life states, a conservative commentator warned Tuesday.

The Biden administration had announced Friday that it was expanding abortion on demand and pro-abortion counseling through the VA effective immediately, LifeSiteNews reported. The new rule makes abortion available for hundreds of thousands of veterans and their beneficiaries, in violation of federal and state laws.

In a September 2 press release, the VA said it “is taking steps to guarantee Veterans and other VA beneficiaries abortion-related care anywhere in the country.”

“VA employees, when working within the scope of their federal employment, may provide authorized services regardless of state restrictions,” the press release read.

Daily Wire podcaster and author Michael Knowles warned in a September 6 podcast episode that the move was an attempt by an increasingly aggressive Biden administration to spark conflict with Republican-led states ahead of the 2022 midterm elections.

“The clearest evidence, I think, that the Dems are trying to provoke political violence now, just came out of the VA,” Knowles said.

“The Biden administration’s VA has just responded to the Dobbs decision overruling Roe v. Wade, and to the pro-life laws passed in the pro-life states, and they said, ‘We are going to perform abortions even in the red states, even when the red states pass pro-life laws. And there’s nothing you can do about it.’” Knowles said.

“This is a very clear attempt to provoke some kind of insurrection, civil war, or violence, inasmuch as now you’ve got the federal government declaring war on the states on an issue that is frankly even more fundamental than slavery,” he argued.

Knowles pointed out that the American civil war broke out in 1861 “because of a disagreement between the national government and the state governments over an extremely intractable moral issue such as slavery. Abortion is even more so.”

While slavery deals with “the nature of liberty to man, and his rights to it,” he argued that abortion deals with the “right to life” itself, “which is an even more fundamental right.”

According to Knowles, the VA’s decision to undercut pro-life measures passed by elected representatives is a deliberate attempt by the Biden administration to provoke a retaliation by pro-life states.

The VA’s new rule comes hard on the heels of U.S. President Joe Biden’s aggressive Thursday night speech accusing so-called “MAGA Republicans,” namely those who support traditional marriage, oppose abortion, and demand election integrity, of posing an existential threat to the very foundations of the country.

Biden gave the impassioned speech in front of Independence Hall in Philadelphia, backlit with sinister red lighting. Conservative commentators were quick to describe the imagery as “satanic, villainous, and even Hitlerian.

While even Democrats noted the speech was akin to a “wartime address,” conservatives excoriated the president for assuming a warlike rhetorical posture in response to his domestic political opponents.

“Yeah, ‘they’re a threat,’ says the guy with the blood-red Nazi background and Marines standing behind him. It’s a complete outrage,” reacted Fox News talk show host Tucker Carlson. “This is truly nuts and threatening to the future of the United States.”

“Joe Biden essentially declared all those who oppose him and his agenda enemies of the republic,” Daily Wire editor emeritus Ben Shapiro wrote. “Truly shameful.”

Republican U.S. Senate candidate J.D. Vance also slammed the speech, arguing that Biden “spoke about his fellow citizens as if they were sewer rats.”

In Knowles’ Tuesday podcast, he argued that Biden’s controversial address was deliberately calculated to justify the arrest of former President Donald Trump after the FBI carried out an unprecedented raid on his Florida home last month.
