Idaho passes bill mandating abortionists tell women about free ultrasounds
March 18, 2016 (National Right to Life) –A bill that would make Idaho the 25th state to enact an ultrasound bill measure is now on its way to Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter.
With only Democrats voting nay, the Idaho Senate yesterday voted 28-7 in favor of HB 516.
“If approved, the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare would compile a list of providers that offer free ultrasounds for women seeking abortions,” the Associated Press reported. “The list would be part of the informed consent brochures abortion providers are required to distribute.”
To critics who argued the measure restricts “choice,” Bill sponsor state Sen. Sheryl Nuxoll said HB 516 “does not limit choice. It just enhances choice. Ultrasounds are truly a window to the womb.”
The bill overwhelmingly passed the House earlier this month on a vote of 56-13. Only a single Democrat voted in favor.

“This bill will only empower women more,” said state Rep. Heather Scott. “This informs the mother that the ‘piece of tissue’ inside her has hands, feet, eyes, looks like a baby and has a heartbeat.”
Prior the full House vote, the House State Affairs Committee voted 13-4 to support HB 516.
“Children have no political power,” said state Rep. Linden Bateman. “They’re innocent and must depend upon us for their protection.”
