CALGARY, May 9 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Speaking at a pro-life conference in Alberta, Bishop Fred Henry defended the giving of $110,000 to the March of Women 2000 despite the fact that the March supports abortion. The Calgary Herald reported that Bishop Henry said the grant was justified since the March also supports many just women’s causes. The bishop called pro-life activists some of “the rudest people I have to deal with.”

Bishop Henry’s defense of the March funding comes in the wake of statements by other Canadian bishops who are upset at the donation given through the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (CCODP), the bishops’ official social justice agency.

CCODP operates at arms length from the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB). Bishop Henry is the sole Canadian bishop on CCODP’s Executive Committee.
