HAMILTON, Feb 28, 2001 (LSN.ca) – Bishop Anthony Tonnos of Hamilton, Ontario has given Catholics in his diocese the freedom to avoid funding the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (CCODP), due to the CCODP support for the pro-abortion World March of Women.

In his pastoral letter for Lent 2001, Bishop Tonnos writes, “For several years, a major focus has been the collection for the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace. Because of the financial support that Development and Peace gave to the World March for Women, many in the past year have indicated to me an unwillingness to contribute to Development and Peace. Therefore I am offering the charitable relief fund of the Holy Father as an official option in this diocese.”
