VANCOUVER, May 20, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) has urged the federal government to appeal the B. C. Court of Appeal decision legalizing homosexual ‘marriage’. In a letter to Justice Minister Martin Cauchon, CCCB President Bishop Jacques Berthelet asked the Minister “to appeal the recent decision of the British Columbia Court of Appeal in the case of Barbeau et al. v. the Attorney General of Canada et al. that decided that the definition of marriage be changed to include same-sex partners.”
The CCCB also repeated their request for Canadian Catholics to express their views on the sanctity of marriage to the government. The CCCB website re-released the “Resources on Marriage” page which includes documents that “will be helpful to members of the Catholic community wishing to respond to the Minister of Justice’s invitation to participate in the current public debate on marriage.” See the CCCB letter and the resource page: https://www.cccb.ca/PublicStatements.htm?CD=&ID=1362 https://www.cccb.ca/MediaReleases.htm?CD=371&ID=1342 See related LifeSite coverage: LEAKED GOV’T DOC SAYS CANADA SET TO LEGALIZE HOMOSEXUAL ‘MARRIAGE’ https://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2003/may/03050601.html
