WASHINGTON, Jan 12 (LifeSiteNews.com) – American Life League is accusing America’s Centres for Disease Control (CDC) of distributing false statistics on the country’s abortion rate. Early last week, the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report presented CDC statistics showing a decline in abortions in the U.S. in 1997. “New CDC ‘Abortion Decline’ Stats Not Possible”, begins ALL’s statement. “There are so many faults in the CDC’s 1997 abortion surveillance that it is not possible for it to be correct in any way,” said ALL president Judie Brown.

The five major faults, which make the CDC’s report all but useless, according to ALL, include the lack of effective federal abortion statistics reporting laws, CDC’s past admissions of significant under reporting of abortion rates, and the concern that “the number of chemical (non-surgical) abortions reported cannot include the number of abortions caused by the average low-level estrogen birth control pill”. “The report is simply bogus,” charges Brown.
