BRASILIA (LifeSiteNews) – Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has broken the silence he maintained since results from Sunday’s federal election indicated that convicted criminal Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva had won a controversial race by less than two per cent of the vote.

Bolsonaro thanked voters but did not concede defeat. His Chief of Staff spoke briefly and acknowledged that the process of transition will begin.

Now there are numerous demonstrations and blockades across Brazil erected by supporters – in some cases with police help – in the wake of the election.

In the lead up to the election, Bolsonaro questioned the integrity of the electronic voting system, prompting concerns from supporters about the legitimacy of the election.
