CHICAGO, Illinois, October 27, 2015 (LifeSiteNews) — Pro-lifers are declaring victory after state inspections closed a surgical abortion center in Chicago.

According to a press release from the Pro-Life Action League (PLAL), the Albany Medical-Surgical Center Family Planning Associates abortion clinic was forced to shut down nine days ago after failing inspections by the state's Department of Public Health.

PLAL Executive Director Eric Scheidler called the closure, which took place 27 years after the clinic opened, “a victory for all who value human life.”

“This abortion provider operated for years without any safety inspections, and multiple women have died following abortions performed there,” said the pro-life leader. “Now that its doors have closed, this neighborhood is safer for women and their unborn children.”

The clinic was linked in the deaths of three women between 1999 and 2000, and sued for the death of a 13-year old girl who went for an abortion in 1992.

Last year, the Department of Public Health found the clinic had made 12 ambulance transfers without reporting them to authorities — which is required by law. Other violations led to fines totaling $50,000 and the loss of the clinic's license.
