Toronto, Oct. 29, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A planned taxpayer rally against public funding of abortions scheduled for Tuesday October 30th at Ontario’s legislature has been postponed due to safety concerns caused by hurricane Sandy. Currently wind gusts of 80-100 km. per hour and up to 75 mm rain are forecasted for Toronto.
“Dalton’s desperate and devious prorogation of parliament couldn’t deter us, but the safety of pro-life citizens travelling on dangerous roads from all parts of Ontario made us reschedule the defund abortion rally,” said Alissa Golob, Youth Coordinator for Campaign Life Coalition and organizer of the defund abortion campaign. “In the near future, we‘ll announce a rescheduled date for the event, likely after prorogation ends”.
The rally was to be phase II of Campaign Life Coalition Youth’s 2012 defund abortion campaign. Phase I involved mini-rallies at the constituency offices of 44 MPPs across Ontario on October 13th, sending a strong message to the elected representative and at the same time, raising community awareness about the economic drain of publicly-funded abortions.

“Although it’s disappointing to reschedule a massive event that many people have arranged their school and work schedules around, we’ll be back in full force,” said Matthew Wojciechowski, Campaign Life Coalition Youth. “Pregnancy is not a sickness, injury or disease so we’ll return to demand that MPPs delist abortion from OHIP”.
Official figures on number of abortions in Ontario are no longer disclosed, but it is estimated that 30,000 to 50,000 abortions take place annually, at a total cost of approximately $30-50 million per year. But, according to CLC, the total cost of abortion is much higher when the indirect costs of abortion are included. Abortion complications such as perforations, uterine hemorrhage, pelvic inflammatory disease, sepsis, post-traumatic stress disorder, suicide and infertility are indirect costs which, when included, could escalate the annual cost of abortion to hundreds of millions of dollars on the provincial health care system.
