(LifeSiteNews) — Cardinal Victor Manuel Fernández just released a declaration on Wednesday stating that a planned act of consecrating bishops without a “papal mandate” will be a “schismatic act” and that “formal adherence to the schism constitutes a grave offence against God.”
He added that it “entails the excommunication established under Church law.”
This “Statement of His Eminence Cardinal Victor Manuel Fernández, Prefect of the Congregation (sic) for the Doctrine of the Faith“ was published on the morning of May 13. It addressed the plans of the traditionalist society of Catholic priests founded by Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, the Priestly Fraternity of St. Pius X (FSSPX), to ordain four new bishops in Écône, Switzerland, on July 1.
