CHICAGO, Oct 3 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Previously heard of in unconfirmed reports, the practice of creating babies for spare parts has come out into the open. Doctors at the Chicago Reproductive Genetics Institute announced Monday that they are awaiting the outcome of a procedure involving the creation of embryos in order to treat a 6-year old girl in need of a bone marrow stem cell transplant. Using ova from the child’s mother and sperm from the father, the scientist created several embryos, then used genetic screening to screen out those embryos with the disease and selected one embryo whose tissue type matched the couple’s ailing daughter. That embryo, a male child, was implanted and was allowed to be born. Stem cells were taken from the baby boy’s umbilical cord and used to treat his sister.

Although the results of the stem cell transplant will only be known in a week, the scientists involved are predicting an explosive growth in this type of procedure.
