LONDON, June 12, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) – During a debate on the government’s climate change bill, a government MP gave high praise to the Chinese programs aimed at stopping population growth as an environmental measure. Barry Gardiner, the Labour MP for Brent North, praised the efforts of the communist Chinese government that have resulted in the loss of 400 million human beings, many of whom died by forced abortions.
Gardiner told the House of Commons on June 9, “Climate change is real. It is caused by human action,” and that the best way to stop it is to reduce the surplus human population.
“People are very keen to accuse China, as we have heard in this debate, over their coal-fired power stations. Such people fail to commend the political initiative that has seen 400 million people not being born to create a carbon footprint in the first place.”
“We need to take the issue of population seriously.” He added that population control should be incorporated into the climate change bill, although he made no concrete suggestions as to the content of a possible amendment.
Although the assertion has been contested in many scientific quarters, the environmentalist movement maintains that climate change, or global warming, is caused by high human population and industrialisation and can be cured by reducing both. In most cases, depopulation programs involving mass sterilisations, contraceptive campaigns and abortion are prescribed as the solution to the crisis. Such programs have been broadly adopted by international aid organisations, many running through the United Nations, in developing countries that still retain higher than replacement birth rates.
Gardiner indicated his complete acceptance of this thesis when he told the House that it is an “inescapable fact is that there comes a point when the continued emission of greenhouse gases into our atmosphere will so fundamentally affect ecosystem services that human life becomes unsustainable.”
The director of the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children, however, had strong words for Gardiner’s implication that Britain should adopt a population control policy similar to that of China’s One Child policy.
John Smeaton cited the one child policy’s coercive methods that include forced abortions, forced sterilisations, compulsory fittings of abortifacient birth control devices, abandonment of children and deliberate killing of orphans through neglect. The Chinese policy has been successful, he said, only through measures such as extortionate fines, destruction of property, imprisonment and even torture.
Smeaton noted, “It is a poor reflection upon the House of Commons that not one single MP objected to Mr Gardiner’s praise for China’s crimes against humanity.”
